My host family

Moving in and finally meeting your host family is an exciting but scary thing. I remember as we pulled up in the bus all the parents were waiting smiling. I remember forgetting about what my family looked like I was in a trance. One thing to keep in mind for those who may study abroad; your family is just as excited and nervous to meet you as you are. Do not go out for the first few days stay home and try to get to know your family because you will realize that the language barrier will make things really uncomfortable. My host family speaks good English and they speak it all the time. That may seem good but in the end it is hurting me so I urge my family to speak only spanish eventhough I know I will not understand anything. My host family is small I have a host mother and a host brother, oh and I cannot forget the dog. Your home is only what you make it. Remember you are in a different country nothing is going to be like home, or at least expect that nothing is going to be like home. Enjoying your time with your host family is the best way to understand the culture and values of what ever country you are in.
